2012 event overview:

Donors On The Diamond a day of entertainment on Fluor Field in Greenville that features fun activities for the entire family!

Hosted by former USC Gamecock and major league baseball catcher Landon Powell,Donors On The Diamond benefits Donate Life South Carolina and raises awareness of the need for South Carolina residents to register as organ, eye and tissue donors.  As in years past, the event will have a spectacular silent auction of autographed sports memorabilia.  Former USC Baseball Coach and current Athletic Director Ray Tanner plus current USC Baseball Coach Chad Holbrook are scheduled to attend along with several other sports celebrities.

Landon Powell’s Celebrity Youth Baseball Camp is back by demand!  This will be the second year for this Donors On The Diamond event. This camp will run in conjunction with the Donors On The Diamond event at Flour Field. The camp is designed for players aged 7-12 years of age and will run from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM prior to the Donors on the Diamond event which begins at 5 PM. Players will be grouped by age and ability. The purpose of this camp is to ensure that each child receives instruction in baseball fundamentals in an atmosphere that is constructive and fun. The unique combination of major and minor league baseball stars, as well as professional instructors, promises to create an unforgettable experience for every child.

Powell, a 2004 graduate of the University of South Carolina and major league baseball player, is a recipient of tissue donations as a result of his two ACL surgeries.  He also has a rare liver disease,  autoimmune hepatitis, that will eventually require him to have a liver transplant.  This condition led Landon and his wife Allyson, who make their permanent home in her native Greenville, S.C., to take up the cause of organ, eye and tissue donation.  Donors on the Diamond is their brainchild.

WHERE: Fluor Field (Greenville Drive Stadium) 945, South Main Street, Greenville, SC

WHY: Every10 minutes another person is added to the national transplant waiting list and approximately 1,000 people in South Carolina currently need an organ transplant. Many will die without more people becoming donors. The public can sign up to be donors at DonateLifeSC.org.
